A surprise sighting for me today (April 26, 2017) of this relatively rare visitor to the Ridgefield NWR. This is a first sighting for me in 10 years of shooting birds at the Ridgefield refuge. The swallows in the area did not like this fellow flying and hovering around as they did their best to harass it. The Loggerhead Shrike (thanks Jen Sanford for the correct ID!) likes small rodents and birds and is known to impale them on sharp branches and thorns.
